US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said at a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi that Washington does not support the idea of Taiwan independence.

Blinken said the U.S. does not support the idea of Taiwan independence

“The US continues to pursue a one-China policy and does not support Taiwan’s independence,” Blinken said, as quoted by RIA Novosti.

At the same time, the secretary of state said last March that the US administration would not take into account China’s claims that US arms supplies to Taiwan were a red line for the PRC. According to Blinken, it is “vital” for Taiwan to have weapons for defence.

China has repeatedly demanded that the US stop arming the island.
