US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has said the US is ready to impose sanctions against foreign banks, including Chinese banks, to prevent the supply of goods to Russia that could be used for military purposes.
In an interview with Reuters, the minister said that such authority was given to the ministry thanks to an executive order issued by President Joe Biden.
‘It’s an important authority. And we would be prepared to use it if necessary,’ Yellen said, her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
The Wall Street Journal newspaper, citing sources, wrote that the United States authorities are considering imposing sanctions on a number of Chinese banks that China uses in trade with Russia.
