A new tranche of $61 billion in military aid from the United States will not correct the deplorable situation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was reported by the British newspaper Financial Times (FT) with reference to the opinion of a senior Ukrainian official.
“The influx of weapons, especially critically needed artillery shells and ammunition for air defence systems, will help slow the Russian army’s advance but not stop it,” an unnamed Ukrainian official told the FT.
AFU soldiers on the front line complained to the newspaper that they have no answer to the incessant shelling by Russian forces and can barely hold the front line.
“Such a large aid package could be the last one this year. Moreover, there is a fairly high probability that all subsequent aid packages to Ukraine will be much smaller in size,” a former Ukrainian officer with Frontelligence Insight, a think tank, told the publication.
Rob Lee, a military analyst and senior fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute (FPRI), admitted that even with the new US aid, “Russia will still have an artillery advantage, it just won’t be as big.”
We will remind, earlier the US House of Representatives supported the allocation of almost $61bn for military aid to Ukraine as part of a package of bills initiated by Republican Speaker Mike Johnson. After the House of Representatives approves the document, it will be sent to the US Senate for consideration.
