The US House of Representatives said that the project on aid to Kiev involves a transition to a system of loans
House Speaker Mike Johnson said that on Wednesday separate bills will be unveiled on aid to Israel, US allies in the Indo-Pacific region and Ukraine, for which Republicans have worked out a shift to a system of loans and enhanced accountability.
It remains unclear how much the Republican opposition’s initiatives will please Democrats and the White House, which favours approving its own single bill for $95 billion, of which some $60 billion is earmarked for Kiev with no additional conditions.
“The House Rules Committee will soon today release the text of three bills that fund America’s national security interests and allies in Israel, the Indo-Pacific, and Ukraine, including a loan structure for aid, enhanced strategy and accountability requirements,” Johnson’s letter to colleagues said.
Later, but also on Wednesday Washington time, the text of a bill on additional sanctions against Russia, China and Iran, including confiscation of frozen Russian assets and a ban on Chinese social networking site TikTok, is scheduled to be released.
