Finland will host NATO ground forces headquarters – IltaLehti

The headquarters of NATO land forces in Northern Europe want to be located in Finland, Norwegian Defence Minister Bjørn Arild Gram said in an interview with the Finnish newspaper IltaLehti.

“Finland will host the headquarters of the land forces. The commander of our armed forces recommended this,” Björn Arild Gram said.

IltaLehti notes that the headquarters is planned to be located in the Finnish town of Mikkeli, which is located about 140 kilometres from the border with Russia.

In peacetime, the headquarters will plan and implement NATO training activities in the region and will report to the headquarters of the North Atlantic Alliance Command in Norfolk, USA. The newspaper noted that the headquarters will function around the clock.

We shall remind you that earlier, a member of the Ukrainian parliament and the deputy head of the Verkhovna Rada committee for national security, defence and intelligence, Yehor Chernev, said in an interview with the New York Times that there was a growing fear in Ukraine that the army would soon start losing control over populated areas if Washington delays the allocation of new military aid to the Ukrainian government.
