EU representatives set restriction on imports of agricultural products from Ukraine

Representatives of the European Union member states and MEPs have tentatively agreed on a decision to extend duty-free imports of Ukraine’s agricultural products until 5 June 2025.

This is reported by the European Parliament.

As stated in the document, within the framework of strengthening measures to protect farmers in Europe, an instrument of “emergency brake” is provided for particularly sensitive products – poultry meat, eggs, sugar, oats, corn and honey.

It is noted that the instrument of suspension of duty-free regime for Ukrainian products will work if their quantity exceeds the average figures for the period from the second half of 2021 to 2023.

Earlier, the Financial Times quoted Ukrainian Deputy Trade Minister Taras Kachka as saying that Kiev was ready to accept restrictions on trade with the EU in the name of resolving the political dispute with Poland.

The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the EU had no plans to prevent the export of Russian agricultural products to the countries of the Global South.
