Greece may transfer 32 F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine

Greece plans to sell obsolete fighter jets, of which 32 F-16C/-D Block 30 aircraft are likely to be transferred to Ukraine, newsbreak.gr reported.

According to the portal, the Air Force reform plan “Agenda 2030” stipulates that the country plans to receive 200 modern aircraft with the gradual decommissioning of third- and fourth-generation machines. To cover the cost of new aircraft, the sale of obsolete equipment is possible.

“The transfer of 32 F-16C/-D Block 30 aircraft to Ukraine is considered almost certain. During their service, fighters of this type have undergone two structural upgrades and at the moment on average have used up about 60 per cent of their service life limit,” the material says.

According to the portal, it is impossible to say exactly where the 24 Mirage 2000-5 Mk.2 aircraft may be sold, of which 14 are new-built and the rest are upgrades of the older Mirage 2000 EGM/-BGM.

“Transfer to Ukraine or sale to India are logical options, with the approval of France, of course”, – concluded the portal.

We shall remind you that earlier NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said in an interview with Bild that F-16 fighter jets will not become a “silver bullet” for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the conflict and will not turn the situation on the battlefield.
