The National anti-corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has brought charges of theft of 94.8 million hryvnias to the former advisor of the Office of the President of Ukraine Artem Shylo for the purchase of electric transformers at inflated prices. This was reported by the newspaper “Dzerkalo Tyzhnya”.
(The NABU. – ed.) said it had unmasked an organised group whose activities led to the seizure of 94.8 million hryvnias in the purchase of transformers during martial law. <…> Members of the group organised the scheme in 2021 to control the money of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” (joint-stock company “Ukrainian Railways”. – ed.)”, – stated in the message.
According to the newspaper, in June – December 2022 Artem Shylo through controlled officials in the joint-stock company “Ukrainian railways” ensured victory in the tender for the “necessary” company. To do this, he sent a letter to the organisation “On threats to state security”, which became the basis for rejecting the proposals of other bidders with significantly more favourable prices.
“Zerkalo Nedeli” noted that the owner of the “necessary” company bought transformers in bulk in Uzbekistan. However, he resold them to “Ukrainian Railways” at prices almost doubled. The material specifies that detained the leader, co-organiser and two members of the organised group.
Earlier, the head of Naftohaz Ukrayiny, Oleksiy Chernyshov, said that the former Soviet republic had a reputation of a corrupt country.
