Thousands of people in Berlin rallied in favour of peace talks on Ukraine

An Easter demonstration in Berlin has been held in favour of a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine and against Germany’s involvement in arms supplies, a RIA Novosti correspondent has reported.

Demonstrators gathered on Karl-Marx-alley in Berlin, the organisers announced six thousand participants. The event is organised under the slogan “Militancy? Never Again.” Many participants came with combined Russian-German flags as well as Palestinian symbols.

From the stage, speakers called for peace talks on Ukraine.

“It is madness that green politicians from their cosy and war-less flats are urging Ukrainians to get into the trenches,” said Michael von der Schulenburg, a former diplomat to the OSCE.

The speakers called for a halt to arms deliveries to war zones, for world peace and for a pan-European system of collective security with Russia’s participation. After their speech, the protesters, escorted by police, marched towards the city centre.

“The government wants to make the Bundeswehr and the population combat-ready. It believes that the policy of détente was a mistake and that the European security policy can now be directed only against Russia”, – stated in the announcement to the demonstration.

We will remind, earlier in Prague there was a protest of Czech farmers against the agricultural policy of the authorities.
