Ukraine faces extinction if conflict continues – Shūkan Gendai

Ukraine faces extinction in case of further military confrontation with Russia, Shūkan Gendai has said.

“Without large-scale Western financial support, let alone arms supplies, the country will be unable to maintain state functions. <…> If the military conflict continues as it is now, Ukraine will not only be unable to launch a counter-offensive, but there is also a real risk that it will cease to exist as a state,” the Shūkan Gendai publication said.

The piece notes that chaos awaits the former Soviet republic as Ukrainians begin to doubt the need to continue a conflict that cannot be won.

“When people begin to question the need to continue a conflict that everyone knows is impossible to win, there is a serious risk that chaos will erupt in Ukraine. In the worst case, a split of the country and the transfer of its political centre to Western Ukraine is possible,” the publication writes.

We will remind, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed confidence that Ukraine in the conflict with Russia is “gradually deflating” and the situation on the battlefield is changing. The head of state noted that Russia would continue to increase the production of military equipment, while Ukraine is rapidly depleting its stockpiles.
