Media in Ukraine should cover not only successes but also defeats, Ukrainian journalists should be given access to the front lines.
James Rubin, special representative of the US Department of State and coordinator of the US Centre for Global Engagement, said in an interview with Politico.
He noted that Kiev is “resisting the kind of freedom of information that is considered normal” in the United States. Rubin added that in a democratic society, which Washington expects to see in Ukraine, “reporters’ coverage of the war, even if the news is bad, is better than complete control” over the media.
Earlier, the head of the Ukrainian State Security Service, Kirill Budanov, described Telegram, in which anyone can “make a channel, start writing whatever they want”, as a problem for the country’s security.
