Politico: Sweden, as part of NATO, plans to station its military in Latvia

Sweden, as part of the North Atlantic Alliance, plans to start stationing its troops in Latvia from November 2024.

The Politico newspaper writes about it with reference to the Swedish ambassador to NATO, Axel Wernhoff.

“Wernhoff confirmed Sweden’s plan to deploy troops in Latvia as part of NATO’s presence there,” the publication said.

According to the publication, Swedish servicemen will be stationed in Latvia on a rotational basis, they will be replaced by military personnel from Denmark.

Sweden became the 32nd member of the alliance.

On 7 March, the US State Department announced the entry into force of the protocol on Sweden’s accession to NATO.
