The Latvian authorities will transfer the House of Moscow in Riga into state ownership, the decision has been approved by the country’s Saeima (parliament). This was reported by the portal of the national state radio LSM.lv.
“The Seimas has approved in the final reading a draft law envisaging the transfer of the House of Moscow to state ownership,” the state TV and radio company said in a statement.
According to the adopted action plan for the facility, the building will first be sold and then the proceeds will be transferred to Ukraine.
According to the conclusions of the parliamentary commission for national security, these measures will ensure the cessation of Russia’s political activity, which threatens Latvia’s national security.
In the opinion of Latvian officials, Russia held its political actions under the cover of cultural events at the House of Moscow.
Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, described the decision of the Latvian authorities to ban the Russian language in the media as a manifestation of aggressive chauvinistic nationalism.
