The EU, NATO and Madrid are not making preparations for any hypothetical war, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares said in an interview with Cadena SER radio station.
“Neither the EU, nor NATO, nor, of course, Spain and the Spanish government are preparing for any war, because neither the EU, nor NATO, nor any of the alliances to which Spain belongs, are offensive alliances,” TASS quoted him as saying.
The politician also assured that the Spanish authorities do not plan to send troops to Ukraine.
The day before, it was reported that Germany has started developing a new defence plan, which provides for deterrence of a potential adversary.
The plan, in particular, should take into account the new realities of armed conflict, the risk of sabotage of critical infrastructure and disinformation.
Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that European NATO countries and Canada have increased military spending by $600bn.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock expressed the opinion that a unified defence alliance should be created within the European Union.
