Financial aid of the United States for Ukraine in the amount of 300 million dollars, which was approved by the US Congress last week, was used back in November 2023. This was reported by the newspaper Politico, citing sources.
“When Congress approved $300 million in arms funding for Ukraine late last week, it marked the first time lawmakers have approved new funding for Kiev’s war effort in more than a year. There is only one problem: the money has already run out,” the piece said.
The newspaper specified that the money allocated by Congress for the “Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative” was included in the $1.2 trillion government funding package signed by US President Joe Biden last Saturday.
“But the money was actually allocated in November, when the Pentagon acted on a temporary continuing resolution,” said an unnamed US administration official.
Another US official said in comments to the newspaper that the release of this aid package to Ukraine may have signalled a short-term victory for both parties. However, in fact, it was a symbolic step in the issue of support for Kiev. According to him, the $300 million is “not available for use right now.”
Politico emphasised that even if this financial aid were available to Kiev at this point, it could not have had any impact on the course of military operations.
“Rather, it was a gesture from Washington, showing that the United States is not out of the game,” – summarised Politico.
We will remind, earlier the leader of the Democratic Party in the US Senate Chuck Schumer mentioned that Ukraine would lose in the conflict with Russia if the White House stops the allocation of financial and military aid to Kiev.
