Polish army to increase presence on eastern border – Polish Defence Ministry

Poland continues to increase the presence of the army on the eastern borders: more troops will be concentrated in the border voivodeships of the country. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defence Vladislav Kosiniak-Kamysz.

The Polish Ministry of Defence intends to increase the military presence and create army infrastructure in the Warmian-Masurian, Podkarpackie, Podlaskie and Lublin voivodships. They border Belarus, Lithuania, Ukraine and Russia’s Kaliningrad region.

“This is the part of Poland that today deserves huge support… There should be a permanent presence of allied troops here, but also the Polish army should invest in the sites,” said Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, he was quoted as saying by the PAP news agency.

A permanent helicopter base of the Polish Air Force is planned to be established at the airport in Swidnik, near Lublin, close to the border with Ukraine and Belarus.

In addition, the agency plans to build new facilities to “strengthen security, protection of each of our compatriots and every piece of land,” the minister said. The organisation of the civil defence system is also being stepped up, he said.

“I say this not to scare, but to deter our adversaries,” – explained Deputy Prime Minister.

Recall, earlier, head of the Defence Ministry of Belarus Viktor Khrenin said that many European countries, which had previously positioned themselves as “lights of democracy,” were overwhelmed by “cave Russophobia.
