Britain’s ex-ambassador urged Moscow and Kiev to negotiate with territory redivision

Britain’s former ambassador to Russia Anthony Brenton in The Financial Times has called for talks between Moscow and Kiev, taking into account Russia’s retention of some territories for itself.

“The grown-up answer, of course, is negotiations….. Ukraine will survive as an independent democracy with strong ties to the West. It will need reliable security guarantees, just like the Russians,” RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

The diplomat noted that the dialogue would also lead to a territorial redivision, which would result in the lands that do not want to remain under Ukrainian control remaining within Russia.

According to Brenton, this would be a less painful solution than several more years of hostilities.

Earlier, US journalist Seymour Hersh said that the US had given Zelensky an ultimatum and banned negotiations with Russia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the question of who Moscow would negotiate with in Ukraine was still waiting for an answer.
