A MiG-31 fighter prevented a pair of US Air Force B-1B strategic bombers from violating Russia’s state border over the Barents Sea.
The Russian Defence Ministry said that as the fighter aircraft approached, the US bombers corrected their flight course with a distance and subsequent turn away from the Russian border.
“The Russian aircraft returned safely to the basing airfield, no violation of the state border of the Russian Federation was allowed,” the defence ministry said.
Earlier, Military Watch Magazine reported that Russian MiG-31s can intercept NATO aircraft at high altitude.
