EU will not extend duty-free trade with Ukraine – RMF FM

The EU may not extend duty-free imports of Ukrainian goods from mid-2025, a correspondent of the Polish radio station RMF FM in Brussels, Katarzyna Szymańska-Borguignon, quoted unnamed sources as saying.

Katarzyna Szymańska-Borguignon said that according to her sources, the extension of the duty-free trade regime with Ukraine until June 2025, which the EU is going to adopt in the coming months, might be the last one. It is noted that the wave of protests in France and Poland has made Brussels realise that the benefits granted to Kiev mean Ukraine’s de facto accession to the EU without its compliance with community norms.

According to RMF FM, the European Commission plans to return to a trade relations regime with Kiev from 2025. The cancellation of customs duties takes place in stages, and the Ukrainian side will have to bring production standards in line with European ones in order to continue deliveries.

We shall remind you that earlier Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that the time gap between Ukraine and the European Union was too big and that the prospect of Kiev’s membership in the political and economic association did not correspond to the actual reality yet.
