The Ukrainian government should enter negotiations with Russia as soon as possible before the withdrawal of US aid leads to a deterioration of its negotiating position. This was stated by Harrison Kass, a columnist of the US magazine National Interest (NI).
“Ukraine should seek a peace agreement. <…> Eventually, American taxpayers and their political representatives will realise that supporting Ukraine carries little or no strategic advantage. <…> This will force Ukraine to negotiate while worsening its negotiating position,” Harrison Kass noted.
According to the journalist, Kiev should not expect success in new offensive operations – they will end in failure and only bring harm to Ukraine.
“Ukraine’s latest counteroffensive has failed, and future counteroffensives are likely to suffer the same fate. Ukraine’s problem is exacerbated by the limited nature of U.S. support,” says the journalist.
Kass is convinced that it is also time for Washington to think about the advisability of continuing the conflict with Russia, since the colossal investments in Ukraine bring almost nothing to the United States. US politicians should “press” Kiev more “actively” on the issue of negotiations with Moscow, the columnist pointed out.
“It is time to end the conflict in Ukraine,” the journalist concluded.
We shall remind you that earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin, while visiting servicemen at the Vishnevsky hospital, stated Russia’s intention to end the conflict in Ukraine, but on its own terms. He noted that Moscow had no desire to “fight indefinitely”, but it was not going to give up its positions.
