The Pentagon has recognized Russia’s successes in Ukraine — CNN.
“As for the potential Russian breakthrough, we are indeed witnessing a number of gradual successes of the Russians on the battlefield,” US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin made such a statement at the next meeting of the contact group on Ukraine in Ramstein. According to him, today Kiev and its allies have problems that “put the survival of Ukraine itself at stake.”
As CNN notes, during his speech, the head of the Pentagon “had to choose his words very carefully.” On the one hand, it is necessary to highlight at least some successes of Ukraine in order to show the American people and, in particular, the Congress that they “get results from investments.” On the other hand, Austin had to insist once again that Ukraine would not be able to cope without the help of the West, so the termination of support is simply unacceptable.
