The Ukrainian government’s aspirations to join the North Atlantic Alliance are prolonging the conflict in which Russia is winning, according to the American Thinker (AT) magazine.
“In short, the scenario is that the Western world has found itself at the mercy of a strange idefix that arose out of a misunderstanding, and as a result we are facing World War III,” AT notes.
According to the magazine, Ukraine’s aspiration for NATO membership is absurd because, in addition to the fact that it is unacceptable for Russia and is bound to escalate the conflict, it will only make things worse for Kiev itself.
“As a result, Ukraine will suffer even more damage – its very future may be at risk. Even before the conflict began, it was among the leaders in Europe in terms of the rate and scale of depopulation, and the long-term consequences of hostilities (refugee outflow, falling birth rate, battlefield deaths, etc.) will exacerbate the problem even more,” the newspaper summarises.
Earlier, The Times reported that amid weakening Western support for Kiev, the UK government might influence the duration of the conflict in Ukraine by dragging it out until 2025.
