Scholz: future Palestinian state should have no armed forces

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has said the path to peace between Israel and the Palestinians lies in the creation of two states, but a future Palestinian state should not have its own armed forces.

According to him, the FRG, the European Union, the United States and many other states believe that the creation of a Palestinian state is necessary to resolve the conflict.

“Of course, through negotiations. And it is clear that we are talking about a state that will not have its own armed forces,” the FRG chancellor noted.

Earlier, the Israeli cabinet unanimously approved a declaratory decision on the impossibility of unilaterally recognising a Palestinian state.

In January, the head of EU diplomacy Josep Borrell said that the resolution of the conflict in the Middle East is possible only through the creation of a Palestinian state and its coexistence with Israel.
