Lithuania has allocated €35 million for the purchase of artillery shells for Kiev in third countries as part of a Czech initiative. This was announced by the country’s prime minister Ingrida Šimonīte.
“The Lithuanian government has allocated €35 million for the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine as part of a Czech initiative,” she informed on her social media page X.
Earlier, the head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell said that the €5bn allocated from the EU to Ukraine could be used to compensate part of the payment for the supply of shells within the framework of the Czech initiative.
Portugal will also allocate €100m for the Czech initiative to provide Ukraine with shells.
