The European Union is secretly working to prepare for the integration of Ukraine

European officials prefer to “keep secret” the work on preparing for the possible integration of Ukraine and other countries into the European Union because of the possible consequences, Politico newspaper reported.

“EU officials have stated that they prefer to keep secret the ongoing work on preparing for the possible integration of Ukraine, Moldova and a number of Western Balkan countries,” Politico said in a publication.

As noted in the article, this is especially done taking into account the “side effects” that will have unpleasant consequences for farmers.

“Let’s be honest: no one wants to talk about this (expansion – ed.) before the European elections … Talking about reducing subsidies for European farmers is not something you would like to include in election programs,” one of the European officials told Politico.

According to published information, the leaders of European countries at the summit on March 21-22 “will hardly touch on the internal homework” on EU enlargement. As noted in the draft statement following the meeting, they plan only to “take stock” of what will need to be done.

Earlier, the chairman of the Federation Council Commission on information policy and interaction with the media, Alexei Pushkov, said that France and Poland are ardent supporters of Ukraine, opposing Russia, but as soon as it comes to Ukrainian agricultural products, Warsaw and Paris forget about their “beloved ally.”
