“Niger’s ruling military junta has cancelled a military agreement with the United States that allowed U.S. military and civilian defence ministry personnel on the country’s territory, a decision that takes effect immediately,” Reuters said.

According to the agency, the decision to cancel the agreement came after a visit by U.S. officials, including U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Molly Fee and Michael Langley, head of the Pentagon’s Africa Command.

Amadou Abdramana, a spokesman for Niger’s military transitional government, said the US delegation violated diplomatic protocol and Niger was not informed of the delegation’s composition, date of arrival and agenda. Abdramana added that the two sides discussed the change of power in Niger and military cooperation between the two countries.

It is noted that as of 2023 in Niger was about 1.1 thousand servicemen of the US army, on the territory of the country is located a base of US UAVs.

Recall, earlier the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said that the United States is responsible for the collapse of international stability and security.
