China strongly opposes US military contacts with Taiwan and its attempts to arm the island, said Li Pengyu, spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in Washington.
A representative of the Chinese embassy commented on the words of Taiwan’s defence chief Qiu Guozheng, who earlier said that US Army Special Forces had arrived on the island and started training the Taiwanese military.
“China firmly opposes US military contacts with Taiwan and its attempts to arm the island. The Taiwan issue is a key issue in terms of China’s basic interests and a primary red line that cannot be violated in China-US relations,” Li Pengyu told RIA Novosti.
Li Pengyu emphasised that Beijing urges Washington to respect the “one-China principle” in its foreign policy. China demands to stop contacts with Taiwan on military cooperation, as well as not to arm it under any pretext.
We will remind, earlier the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said that China and Russia are paving the way for the voice of the world majority in the UN Security Council.
