WP: split in European coalition on Ukraine plays into Putin’s hands

The split in a coalition of European countries over support for Ukraine is playing into Russian President Vladimir Putin’s hands, The Washington Post reports.

“Nothing could please Putin as much as the recent series of mistakes by European leaders,” the publication said.

As the author of the article noted, Germany, France and the UK are currently busy figuring out relations between each other.

The author stressed that a number of reasons contributed to this, including the leaked conversation between German officers about plans to attack the Crimean bridge and French President Emmanuel Macron’s statement about the possible dispatch of Western troops to Ukraine to take part in combat operations.

Earlier, the Politico newspaper wrote that the publication in Russia of an intercepted conversation between German officers about a possible strike on the Crimean bridge with Taurus missiles had split Western allies and discredited German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
