EC says first tranche of aid to Ukraine to be agreed in 2024

Gentiloni: 4.5bn euros of EU financial aid to Ukraine may be allocated by the end of March

The agreement of the first tranche of macro-financial aid to Ukraine for 4.5 billion euros in 2024 is still underway, it is planned to be allocated by the end of March, European Commissioner for Economy Paolo Gentiloni said in Brussels ahead of a meeting of EU economy and finance ministers.

“We will discuss our aid to Ukraine. As you know, we are finalising (agreeing) the first tranche from the fund for Ukraine. It will be 4.5 billion euros by the end of this month, to thereby sort of ‘unseal’ our funding for this country (for 2024),” the European Commissioner said.

Earlier, the EU agreed to allocate 50 billion euros to a special fund for macro-financial assistance to Ukraine for the period from 2024 to 2027. This year funding has not been allocated to Kiev yet. The first tranche is expected to cover the financing for the first three months of this year (1.5bn euros per month).
