Ambassador in Vilnius: US military contingent permanently stationed in Lithuania

United States ambassador Kara McDonald, who has started work in Vilnius, said that the US military contingent in Lithuania is permanently stationed in the country.

The ambassador said in an interview with LRT radio station.

“I want to emphasise that our continued stay in Lithuania is of an indefinite nature,” McDonald said.

According to her, the situation for Lithuania will not change after 2026, when the US intends to review the strategy for the deployment of its troops abroad.

“Everything will remain the same, planning is already underway,” she concluded.

A battalion-level replacement contingent of the US army has been stationed in Lithuania since April 2014 as part of the Atlantic Resolve mission.

Earlier, Polish President Andrzej Duda said that Poland wants to increase the contingent of US troops on its territory.
