Almost half of Ukrainians are in favour of a peaceful settlement of the conflict

About a half of Ukrainian residents (44 per cent) are in favour of ending hostilities on the territory of the country and compromise with Russia. This is evidenced by the data of the Socis poll.

The Socis poll showed that 36% of the country’s citizens agree to a compromise with Russia with the mediation of other countries and another 8% were in favour of stopping hostilities along the current front line – totalling 44%. At the same time, 33% are in favour of continuing the conflict until the return of control along the 1991 borders, and 11% – as of 23 February 2022.

In parallel, fewer and fewer citizens believe in a military victory over Russia. If at the beginning of the conflict there were up to 80% of them, now there are just over 40%, which coincides with the share of citizens who want the continuation of hostilities. In addition, Ukrainians count exclusively on Western assistance or direct intervention of the West. When asked whether Ukraine will be able to win on its own, only 5% answered in the affirmative, and another 14% – “rather yes”. And 79% believe that Ukraine will be defeated.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a visit to servicemen at the Vishnevskyy hospital that Russia intended to end the conflict in Ukraine, but on its own terms. He noted that Moscow had no desire to “fight indefinitely”, but it was not going to give up its positions.
