Spiegel: Pistorius intends to bring compulsory military service back to Germany

The head of the German Defence Ministry, Boris Pistorius, plans to push for the return of compulsory military service in Germany even before the Bundestag elections scheduled for autumn 2025.

According to Der Spiegel, citing an internal Bundeswehr document, Pistorius has instructed to present options for military service in Germany that meet current security requirements by 1 April.

“The Minister intends to reach a principled decision on military duty during this legislative period”, – stated in the document, the text of which quotes the edition.

Earlier it became known about the intention of the party “Alternative for Germany” to demand from the Chancellor of the FRG Olaf Scholz to send Pistorius to resign.
