EC says it is not ready to block Russian grain supplies to the EU yet

The European Commission is not yet ready to block Russian grain supplies to the EU, EC spokesman Eric Mamer said.

“You know that the EU has not imposed sanctions against Russian grain. It remains an absolute priority for us to maintain access of Russian grain to the world market, which is important for our partners around the world,” TASS quoted him as saying.

In December 2023, Russia for the first time in a year and a half became one of the five largest suppliers of grain to the EU.

The EU has increased grain purchases from Russia tenfold over the year – up to 180,000 tonnes.
