NATO troops in Ukraine will be legitimate targets for the Russian Armed Forces – Kosachev

Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev said that if the armed contingent of the North Atlantic Alliance is involved in hostilities in Ukraine, it will be a legitimate target for the Russian Army.

“The Russian response from a military point of view should be determined by the military and the supreme commander-in-chief, of course, in the first place, but from my point of view, in this case, those NATO armed forces that will appear on the territory of Ukraine will absolutely definitely be legitimate targets for the Russian Armed Forces. No one should have any doubts about this,” the parliamentarian said on air of the Rossiya 24 TV channel.

According to the deputy chairman of the Russian Federation Council, if certain conditions of the conflict exist, both training and decision-making centres and military production points on the territory of the countries of the military-political bloc can become legitimate targets for the Russian Army.

“Because this will be a fundamentally different situation in which we will have to suppress NATO’s armed resistance to Russia using Ukraine’s territory. But this is a prospect which, I repeat, I would not like to present now in any real categories. And I hope that our current response to Macron’s statement will cool down many inflamed minds in the West, especially since they seem to understand without our help what risks Macron’s proposed strategy entails,” Konstantin Kosachev concluded.

Earlier, Politico reported that French President Emmanuel Macron’s pomposity over his statement about the possibility of sending a Western military contingent to Ukraine was seen as a boast both in Kiev and in France.
