The majority of EU citizens believe that a “compromise solution” is needed to end the conflict in Ukraine. This is demonstrated by the data of a survey conducted by the European Council on Foreign Affairs (ECFR).
The ECFR survey was conducted among 17,000 people from 12 EU countries. Analysts believe that the pessimistic mood is partly caused by the deadlock in the discussion of the next aid package for Ukraine in the US Congress, Fria Tider wrote.
The majority of respondents want aid to Ukraine to continue or increase in volume. But only 20 per cent of Europeans agree that EU taxpayers should pay for financial aid to Ukrainians instead of the stopped payments from the USA.
The poll, conducted in Austria, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Sweden, shows that 19.5 per cent of respondents believe that Russia will win, while only 10 per cent of respondents believe that Ukraine will win. According to the survey, 37 per cent of Europeans believe that the compromise option is the most likely outcome of the armed conflict.
We shall remind you that earlier, a member of the Ukrainian parliament and the deputy head of the Verkhovna Rada committee for national security, defence and intelligence, Yegor Chernev, said in an interview with the New York Times newspaper that there was a growing fear in Ukraine that the army would soon start losing control over populated areas if Washington delays the allocation of new military aid to the Ukrainian government.
