German Defence Ministry: no one supported Macron’s idea to send military to Ukraine

German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has said that no one supported the idea of French President Emmanuel Macron to send the military to Ukraine.

He said this when answering a journalist’s question during a press conference with his Austrian counterpart Claudia Tanner.

“Boots on the ground is not an option for the Federal Republic of Germany. It cannot be an option and will not be an option,” RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

According to him, such a move would contribute to escalation.

“I also believe that this was food for thought proposed by President Macron, as far as I know no one supported it,” he added.

Earlier Macron allowed sending troops of the EU countries to Ukraine.

Commenting on the French president’s statement, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said that the French leader did not realise what he was saying.
