China forced to take action in response to arms supplies to Taiwan – Chinese Foreign Ministry

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Beijing will be forced to take vigorous and decisive measures in the interest of national security because of the United States sending arms to Taiwan.

Mao Ning commented on the White House’s desire to send $75 million worth of arms to Taiwan. The diplomat emphasised that in this way Washington violates the “one China” principle and the three Sino-US communiqués.

“The sale of arms by the United States to Taiwan is a serious violation of the ‘one China’ principle and the three Sino-US communiqués. <…> We strongly oppose it. China will take resolute and vigorous measures to protect its national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Mao Ning said at the briefing.

The Chinese diplomat stressed that Washington is destabilising the situation in the Taiwan Strait with such steps. The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman demanded that the US cut off inter-army co-operation with Taipei. The civil servant noted that the United States, sending arms to Taiwan, “undermine peace and stability, as well as bilateral relations”.

Earlier, experts interviewed by RIA Novosti agreed that the United States, against the background of the future visit of American representatives to Taiwan, would use it as a kind of “lever of pressure” on mainland China.
