Russian Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov said during a press conference at the energy day at the Russia International Exhibition and Forum at VDNKh that Europe should take the initiative itself to extend Russian gas transit through Ukraine.
“I think European countries should take care themselves and try to come out with some proposal on how to preserve transit because they are interested in it,” TASS quoted him as saying.
The minister added that the Russian side is not currently negotiating the extension of the transit agreement.
Earlier, European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson informed Ukraine that the EU was not interested in extending the agreement on the transit of Russian gas to Europe. The document expires at the end of 2024.
