Welt: Scholz did not allow von der Leyen’s nomination as NATO Secretary General

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has not allowed the nomination of European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen as a candidate for the post of NATO secretary-general.

About it writes the newspaper Welt am Sonntag, citing sources.

“Scholz was categorically opposed to von der Leyen becoming head of NATO,” the newspaper’s interlocutor said.

In August, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said in an interview with CNN that he was no longer going to go for an extension of his term.
