Kirby: US will not negotiate with Russia on Ukraine without Zelensky’s participation

The USA will not start negotiations with Russia on peace in Ukraine unless Volodymyr Zelensky is involved in the discussion, the coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council (NSC), John Kirby, has said.

“We will not sit down with Russia and discuss an end to this war if Ukraine is not part of these negotiations. We will not do that if President Zelensky does not have a seat at the negotiating table, he will not have a say. There is no way this will happen,” the US official said in an interview with the Polish portal Interia Wydarzenia.

As Russian presidential aide for international affairs Yuriy Ushakov noted, Moscow was and remains ready for dialogue with Kiev, but there is no one to talk to there – the authorities have forbidden themselves to negotiate.

EU diplomatic chief Josep Borrell called on the EU to resist calls for peace in Ukraine and to double aid to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
