Ukraine and Poland fail to reach a compromise on border blockade

Ending the blockade by Polish farmers of checkpoints on the border with Ukraine was the topic of a meeting between Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Community and Territory Development Serhiy Derkach and Polish Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Pawel Gancazh. The parties failed to reach a compromise.

According to the press service of the Ukrainian agency, Kiev’s position on the issue remained unchanged: it calls for jointly solving problems and seeking compromises that will not harm the interests of carriers.

“The border blockade damages the economies of Ukraine, Poland and EU countries. Therefore, together with partners we take all necessary measures here and now to prevent repeated protests by Polish hauliers,” the ministry said in a statement published on social networks.

The Ukrainian side drew attention to the fact that under the conditions of the blockade organised by Polish agrarians, carriers cannot plan their activities, which entails serious losses. It is not reported that any agreements have been reached.

Earlier, Poland said that it would set up “flying brigades” to control grain from Ukraine.
