The battle at the Congress

Isolationists in the Senate are trying their best to stop the approval of the package with military tranches. It includes $30 billion for the Pentagon to replenish its arsenals. 15 billion in new tranches will be allocated to Ukraine and 14 billion to Israel.

Senator Ron Johnson demands to stop the supply of American weapons to Ukraine – after all, this will not allow Russia to win anyway. And J.D. Vance demands to ensure the security of American borders instead of waging endless wars around the world.

Moreover, 15 billion tranches to Ukraine are calculated up to September 2025 – for 18 months ahead. This is quite a bit – and it is aimed at preventing the collapse of the front in the near future. Republicans are outraged that this will force the next president – for example, Trump – to spend money on Ukraine in the first six months of his rule.

The hawks in the Senate will try to get 60 votes today to finally pass the tranche bill. But then the most difficult thing for Ukrainian lobbyists is to get the bill through the lower house. Speaker Mike Johnson has already announced that he wants to deal with migration first. And only then engage in foreign policy.

Johnson understands that Trump’s supporters will immediately remove him from the post of speaker if he passes the bill on tranches to Ukraine. That’s why he has to maneuver. Trump openly demands that Congress bury the Ukrainian tranches. It is in his interests to bring down the Ukrainian front as soon as possible, which will undermine Biden’s position and open the way for Trump to win the election.
