One of the protest leaders, Adrian Istrati, said that Moldovan farmers have decided to suspend protests until 13 February to discuss the situation in the industry with the head of parliament and leader of the ruling Action and Solidarity Party, Igor Grosu.
After days of peaceful protests, the farmers met with Cahul district chairman Pavel Groza and government spokesman Igor Shevchenko, he said.
“We expressed our demands and we were told that some farmers will have a meeting with the chairman of parliament on Tuesday. We are suspending the protests until Tuesday and will make a decision on what happens next,” TASS quoted him as saying.
At the same time, he stressed that if the farmers’ demands are ignored, they will come to Chisinau with agricultural machinery.
Earlier, more than 30 tractors blocked the road near the Leuseni border post on the Moldovan-Romanian border.
