Jens Stoltenberg: NATO leadership sees no threat of attack from Russia

NATO leadership sees no threat of an attack by Russia on the alliance countries, the organisation’s secretary general Jens Stoltenberg has said.

“We do not see peace as guaranteed, but we do not see any immediate threat of an attack by Russia on the territory of the alliance countries,” he said at a press conference in Brussels, TASS quoted him as saying.

President Vladimir Putin emphasised that Moscow has no interest in a conflict with NATO.

Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev called statements by Western politicians about a possible conflict extremely dangerous chatter. He recalled that the military potentials of Russia and NATO countries are not comparable, so in case of a conflict with the alliance, the Russian side, having no choice, will be forced to respond to aggression asymmetrically.
