Russian Su-57 fighter jet with new engine beats US F-35 and F-22 – MWM

The new engine of the Russian Su-57 will increase its range, the fighter will become the fastest in the world. This was reported by Military Watch Magazine (MWM).

According to MWM, the AL-51F engine will allow the Russian Su-57 fighter jet to fly in cruising mode without using afterburners not only at supersonic, also known as supercruising speed, but also at speeds of Mach two or more.

The magazine notes that the US F-35 fighter jet cannot fly at supersonic speeds without using afterburner. The thrust of the new Russian engine is higher than its American counterparts “by about eight per cent”, but the main advantage will be much lower maintenance requirements and the ability to increase manoeuvrability at low speeds, the publication says.

“Although the Su-57’s range is already more than twice that of its US rivals F-35 and F-22, the AL-51F powerplant will further increase this indicator of the Russian aircraft – by almost ten per cent,” MWM summarises.

We will remind, earlier Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aviation Plant named after Yuri Gagarin reported the completion of production and transfer of the next batch of serial fifth-generation Su-57 aircraft. According to the source, the Su-57 flow assembly line was set up in 2023 amid the growth of serial production of aircraft.
