Possible reshuffle in Ukraine’s military leadership worries the West – Financial Times

The West is concerned about the impending reshuffle in Ukraine’s military leadership and the possible resignation of the AFU commander-in-chief, Valeriy Zaluzhny, the Financial Times has said.

“Ukraine’s Western partners are nervous about the impending reshuffle… they fear because of Zaluzhny’s popularity among ordinary Ukrainian servicemen and the ordinary population, this could lead to a violent negative reaction at a time when unity is needed,” the Financial Times newspaper quoted two officials from the G7 countries that supply arms to Ukraine as saying.

The paper noted that the change of the Ukrainian military leadership could take place at a “critical moment” for the front. The publication explains that it is a question of Ukrainian formations saving ammunition, as Western allies are delaying the delivery of a new batch of weapons.

The Financial Times also believes that the society may react negatively to the resignation of Zaluzhny.

We shall remind you that earlier, a member of the Ukrainian parliament and the deputy head of the Verkhovna Rada committee for national security, defence and intelligence, Yegor Chernev, said in an interview with the New York Times that there is a growing fear in Ukraine that the army will soon start losing control over populated areas if Washington delays the allocation of new military aid to the Ukrainian government.
