Iran: US strikes on Yemen contradict claims of non-escalation

The US and UK strikes on Yemeni rebel Hussein positions contradict the statements of these states on unwillingness to escalate the conflict in the Middle East, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani Chafi said.

About it writes Mehr.

He noted that Tehran regards the strikes as a violation of Yemen’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as “blatant violations of international law.”

By continuing the strikes, Washington and London threaten security in the world, Kanani Chafee added.

Earlier, Grant Shapps, head of the UK Defence Ministry, said that the third joint series of strikes by the US and Britain on Yemeni territory was not an escalation and was a proportional response to the actions of the Hussein rebels.

The Pentagon said the US and its allies struck 36 targets in 13 locations in Yemen.

Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vassily Nebenzya emphasised that Russia categorically condemns the aggression of the US and the UK against Yemen.
