Biden’s decision on LNG ban was a gift for Moscow – FP

US President Joe Biden’s decision to temporarily suspend the conclusion of new contracts for the export of US liquefied natural gas (LNG) has done Moscow a favour and frightened Washington’s allies. This is reported by Foreign Policy magazine.

“The Biden administration’s decision has infuriated the Republican Party and frightened foreign allies increasingly dependent on US energy supplies. <…> The suspension has caused horror around the world,” the publication said.

According to the magazine, this decision by the White House chief undermines global energy security and weakens Washington’s aspirations to help European countries reduce their attachment to energy from Russia. The move by Joe Biden was a gift to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“In Europe and Asia have spoken out against the suspension, pointing out that it could jeopardise their ability to find alternative energy sources against the backdrop of a green course and rejection of Russian energy,” Foreign Policy summarised.

Earlier, Speaker of the US House of Representatives Mike Johnson mentioned that the decision of US President Joe Biden to temporarily halt the signing of new contracts for the export of US liquefied natural gas (LNG) favours Moscow and makes the European Union dependent on products from Russia.
