The Polish president pointed to Crimea’s historical belonging to Russia

Polish President Andrzej Duda has expressed doubts that Ukraine will ever return the Crimean peninsula, pointing to Crimea’s historical belonging to the Russian state. This was reported by Reuters with reference to the YouTube channel Kanal Zero.

According to Reuters, the Polish president expressed doubts as to whether Ukraine was capable of returning the Crimean peninsula. The agency stressed that such words by Andrzej Duda had drawn criticism from politicians from the ruling coalition in Poland.

“I do not know whether Ukraine will be able to return Crimea, but I believe that it will return Donetsk and Luhansk,” the Polish president said in an interview with the YouTube channel “Kanal Zero”.

The Polish politician argued his own point of view. The President of Poland emphasised that Crimea “is a special place <…> also for historical reasons”, as “most of the time it was in the hands of Russia”.

Earlier, the head of the Crimean State Council, Vladimir Konstantinov, mentioned that the republic was working on an initiative under which the years when the Crimean peninsula was part of independent Ukraine would be recognised as legally “null and void” and illegal.
