Syria’s Foreign Ministry called the US strikes a violation of the country’s sovereignty

The Syrian Foreign Ministry said that the United States strikes on Syrian territory violate the principles of territorial integrity and security of the Middle Eastern country. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the Syrian Foreign Ministry.

“At dawn today, the US launched another attack on Syrian territory, adding to its list of violations of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and security of its people, proving once again that it is the main source of global instability and that its armed forces threaten international peace and security with their attacks on countries and their peoples,” the ministry said in a statement.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry stressed that Damascus “categorically rejects all pretexts and lies put forward by the US administration to justify this attack.”

“Yesterday’s US attack on several neighbourhoods in the eastern province of Deir ez-Zor, while US troops continue to occupy parts of Syrian territory, is a clear indication that a clear characteristic of the US administration is its lack of respect for the UN Charter and the principles of international law,” the Syrian foreign ministry stressed.

Moreover, based on the US attacks, Syria expressed its deep concern over the “state of paralysis” that the UN Security Council is in as a result of the US obstructing its ability to fulfil its responsibilities and the principles of international law.”

“The Syrian Arab Republic (SAR. – ed.) stresses that this new violation of Syrian sovereignty is part of a series of violations that the US is committing in Syria, including acts of aggression on the part of the so-called “international coalition”, which they established since 2014, their explicit support for terrorism, the killing of civilians and the looting of Syria’s wealth,” – summarised the SAR Foreign Ministry.

Earlier, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell mentioned that Brussels assesses the Middle East situation as critical due to the United States strikes on Syria and Iraq.
